Turn a Word file into a PDF in the browser

The PDF is a picture of the preview

Word to PDF is for a .docx you need to hand to someone who will look at it, not search inside it. The tool lays the document out in the browser and draws each page as an image. “Ship by Friday” and “Include the packing list” in the sample delivery note should be readable in the PDF if the preview showed them. Selectable, searchable text is not the promise. A font this browser cannot draw is substituted, which can change line breaks. Headers, footers, and page breaks survive only as far as the preview shows them. Comments and tracked changes are not exported as a review list.

The file stays local. There is no server render and no upload to NexTool. If the preview cannot be built, the conversion stops. Do not send a PDF you have not opened beside the .docx. The guide explains when a picture-PDF is enough and when you should export from Word itself on a computer that has the right fonts. If the result is large because every page is an image, you can run PDF compress afterward, with the same warning: compress redraws again and can soften the text a second time.

Before you attach it

Check the page count, a heading, and one line near the end. Look for a substituted font that made a table overflow. If the preview itself looks wrong, the PDF will look wrong. Fix the .docx and convert again. Only .docx files up to 20 MB are accepted. Scanned pages that were pasted in as pictures stay pictures. This tool does not perform OCR. If you need the words from a scan, use OCR and read its separate warning about local recognition versus an AI provider.

A picture of the preview, on purpose

Use Word to PDF when someone needs to see the pages and cannot open .docx. The sample delivery note contains “Ship by Friday.” and “Include the packing list.” After export, open the PDF and read those sentences at the size the recipient will use. The pages are drawn from the preview, so a font this browser does not have is substituted, and the PDF text may not be selectable. That is a limit, not a hidden failure. If the recipient must search for a phrase or copy a paragraph, send the .docx or produce a PDF from the program that owns the fonts. This page will not invent a searchable text layer to flatter the file name.

The .docx stays in the browser while the preview is drawn. NexTool does not upload it to build the PDF, and it does not keep the PDF after you leave. Download it, open it, and check page breaks, images, and any line that wrapped differently from Word on your computer. A wide table can overflow the preview even when Word printed it on one page. If that happens, fix the table in the source and export again. Do not tell the recipient the PDF is “the Word file” if they need to edit a sentence. It is a visual copy. PDF compress is a later, separate choice and will soften the picture further if you run it.
