Word tools that stay inside the browser
What this studio accepts
The Word studio works on .docx files you already have: compare two drafts, merge several documents into one, export a PDF from the on-screen preview, split where Word stored an explicit page break, or pull out embedded images. It is not a general converter for old .doc files, and it is not a PDF editor. If the file you have is a PDF, use the PDF studio instead of hoping Word tools will read it. Word count for pasted text and for .txt, .md, or .docx lives on its own page, word count, listed with the other small utilities.
Files are read in this browser. A .docx is a zip of XML, and the page unpacks it locally. NexTool does not upload the document to a server of its own. The usual ceiling is 20 MB per file. Headers, footers, comments, and tracked-change markup are not a full review list. Comparison uses body text after the preview can read it. Merge follows the first file’s headers and inserts a page break between documents. Export to PDF draws each preview page as an image, so the PDF text may not be searchable. Those limits are the reason the task pages exist separately: compare, merge, and Word to PDF.
How to choose
Open compare when someone sent a revision and you need to see which words changed, not when you need a legal redline with comments. Open merge when cover and appendix are separate .docx files and you want one document with a page break between them. Open Word to PDF when a recipient cannot open .docx and a visual copy is enough. If they need to search the PDF for a phrase, this export is a weak choice because the pages are pictures of the preview. A font this browser cannot draw will be substituted. Check the PDF against the .docx before you send it. The compare guide and the Word to PDF guide spell out those tradeoffs without sitting inside the tool controls.
Optional AI elsewhere on the site does not apply to these Word file jobs. Nothing in compare, merge, or PDF export sends the document to an API. If you later use an AI feature in another tool, that is a separate choice and the key stays in the browser. Keep originals. The page will not remember the .docx after you leave. Download the result, open it, and only then delete anything you are sure you can replace.
A practical order of work
Start from the job, not from a menu you do not need. If a colleague sent a second draft, open compare and read the highlighted words against the sample idea: a date that moved from 10 days to 15 days should show up as a change, not as a comment thread. If the cover and the appendix are two .docx files, open merge and keep the cover first. If the recipient cannot open Word, open Word to PDF and accept that the PDF is a picture of the preview. Unpack, draw, and export all happen in the tab. A 20 MB ceiling is the usual limit. Headers and comments are not a full review. Keep both source files until the download has been opened in the program the recipient will use.
