Browser tools for PDFs, documents, and images that stay on this device
What NexTool is for
NexTool is a set of practical browser tools for file work you would otherwise upload to a random converter. You can merge several PDFs into one file, split a packet into single pages, compress a photo-heavy scan, redact a number by burning a black box into the page, compare two Word drafts, merge .docx files, turn a spreadsheet into CSV, and shrink images before you attach them to a message. The cards on this page open those tools. The notes under the cards explain when each job is a good fit, what the tool refuses to do, and how to check the file you download.
The homepage is a directory with explanations, not a keyword list. Document tools come first because they are the jobs people open the site to finish: a report that needs its appendix, a scan that is too large to send, a contract page that should not show an account number, or a spreadsheet someone asked for as CSV. Image tools, a word counter, a screen ruler, and smaller utilities sit further down. Lesson labs for physics and chemistry are not part of the public production site. If a card is on this page, the tool behind it can be opened and used.
Files stay in the browser
The PDF, Word, Excel, and image tools process the file you choose inside this browser. Selecting a file does not post it to a NexTool upload folder. There is no NexTool account that stores your documents, and refreshing the page does not bring an exported file back. The page reads the bytes through the browser, runs the conversion with code that ships with the site, and gives you a download. Close the tab when you are done, and keep your own copy of both the original and the result. A very large PDF can still fail when the tab runs out of memory. That limit is the browser on your computer, not a queue on a server.
A few optional features are different, and the page says so before you use them. If you turn on an AI formula, AI OCR, or the desktop mascot chat, that request goes to the OpenAI-compatible address you typed in Settings. The API key stays in this browser. NexTool does not ship a vendor key and does not receive the prompt on its own server. Read that provider’s policy before you send anything private. Local OCR, local PDF edits, and local image export do not use that setting. Advertising, when it is enabled, is a separate matter: Google may set cookies to show and measure ads. Your files are still not uploaded for the tool to work. The privacy policy explains cookies, ads, and the statistics switch.
How to pick a tool
Start from the job, not from the file type alone. If you have two finished PDFs and you need one file with the appendix after the report, open Merge PDF. If you need every page as its own PDF, open Split PDF. If a scanned page is too heavy to email, open Compress PDF and expect the page to be redrawn as a JPEG, which can soften text. If you need to hide a badge number for good, open the redact task and read the warning that the marked page becomes a picture. Word comparison is for two .docx drafts, not for a PDF. Image compress is for PNG, JPEG, or WebP pictures, not for PDF pages. The guides collect the longer versions of these choices: local tools versus upload sites, merging without mixing up the order, and compressing without pretending nothing was lost.
Each tool page repeats the limits that matter for that job: file types, size ceilings, passwords, and what is dropped. Samples you can download sit on the task pages so you can see a known result before you use a private file. The two-page report and one-page appendix used for merge are public fixtures, not your documents. After you export, open the result and check page count, order, and anything that had to be redrawn. NexTool does not keep a copy you can retrieve later, and it does not send the finished file anywhere unless you download it or hand it to another program yourself.
Who runs the site
NexTool is an independent website at nextool.org. It is not a file host and not a signed-in workspace. Questions about the site, a broken tool, or advertising go to ads@nextool.org. That is the same address shown in the footer. Please do not attach confidential documents to that mailbox and expect them to be processed. The tools never see mail. About describes the local-first approach, Contact says what to include in a message, and Terms describes what you can expect from a browser tool that does not store your files.
